I am an American, can I be an aupair in Ireland?

Americans do not require a visa to enter Ireland. However access to the country

does not entitle a person to work In Ireland. All non European Union (EU)

passport holders require a work permit if they wish to work. This is very

difficult to obtain. Strictly speaking the Irish authorities considers an

aupair to be a worker, however as many young people go to Ireland to be

students, an aupair can enter into informal arrangements with a family where

food, lodging and pocket money is given in return for help around the

house and babysitting.
