Nanny jobs in ALHOS VEDROS Portugal:
Hello
My name’s Alexandra Praias and I’m the mum of a 22 months
old boy called Kyle.
We live in Alhos Vedros, Portugal.
Alhos Vedros is a quiet village that has all the main
amenities: some shops, swimming pool, gyms, library, a very
pretty and old church and some parks.
We have bus and trains that can take you to Barreiro in 10-
15 minutes.
Barreiro is a larger town and connects by boat (a 20 minute
journey) to Lisbon, the capital.
I’m still very young and active and right now I need someone
reliable to help me with Kyle because I returned to full time
education in order to finish my high school so I can enter to
university hopefully next year.
I study nights so I prefer to have someone in the comfort of
my own home. It wouldn’t be nice to have to bring home a
sleepy toddler every night, no matter the weather.
You will stay with him every weeknight from around 6pm
until I arrive, around 12am.
You will have dinner with him so you need to be able to
cook. He eats anything really, but I prefer if you keep it
healthy. By 9pm he should be in bed. The rest of your work it
will be just to keep an ear on him in case he wakes up. He
usually never does. You can even go to sleep if you are sure
you will awake up in case he needs you.
During the day I will need you to stay with him for periods so
I can study and you will be required to get up with him at
around 8-9am certain mornings.
This will all be quite flexible.
At weekends I will probably need you too, so I can study
and have a bit of “me” time.
You will of course be given free time and every time Kyle is at
the nursery (he will probably be thee for two days a week)
or when he’s passing time with family you are free to do
whatever you please.
You will have a full free weekend at least once a month.
So, basically you will have loads of free time but will be quite
spread. I will be with Kyle most of the day during weekdays
and most Sundays you will have free.
Theses are all just guidelines as it can change slightly. I’m
looking into starting a part time job sometime in future and
then we would need to revise the schedule.
You will be required to help with some light house chores like
cooking, wash the dishes and so on. We have someone that
comes once a week to do the deep cleaning.
You will be provided with a monthly ticket, either bus or
train, so you can travel around.
If you want to learn English we have several schools around.
I’ve been myself in one of them.
We also have a dog and a cat that don’t live with us right
now. I’m not sure how will this situation be in the future.
There is a chance that the dog will come to live with us.
Right now he lives in England with my partner and my
parents.
You will be able to use Internet in here when you are either
not working or when Kyle is asleep.
You will be provided with a mobile phone that will be
charged with 10 twice monthly. Anymore you will have to
charge it yourself.
You will have your own bedroom and your meals will be with
us. We can both cook. Hope you like Portuguese food! J We
like to try every kind of food.
I don’t have any problem with you inviting friends over once
in a while once you start knowing people around, but all in
good measure please.
I’ve been myself an au pair several times in Holland. Some
were very good experiences, others not so good. I hope my
own experiences will help me in being a good family host for
you.
In the case that you stay with us for more than 9 months I
will consider helping you paying your return fare.
When I’m in holidays you will have more free time and I’m
still not sure of what happens when we go in holiday.
There is the possibility of you having to go with us to
England and to Holland. Do you have a passport that allows
you to enter in these two countries?
I’m a quite flexible person and I hope you can be like an
older sister to Kyle and a good friend to me.
I’m honest and direct and need someone reliable.
Someone that I feel I can trust my son and can make fun
and safe activities with him.
He’s a very busy toddler. He’s learning 3 languages:
English, Portuguese and Dutch.
I’m more than happy for you to speak with him in any other
language on a regular basis.
In order for him to manage all these languages he was
taught sign language from a very early age.
You will also have to learn these signs (nothing too
complicated!! J ) but you will be surprised in how easy is to
communicate with him. Due to these signs we also avoided
the tantrums that come from the frustration of not being
understood.
I would appreciate that when you reply to my emails you do
it on your own, without the help of any translation program.
This is so I can see what are your English skills. I don’t need
them to be perfect (mine is also far from perfect) but I need
to know what I can count with.
If you have any questions, please do let me know and I will
be more than happy in answering them.
The au-pair will be required
to stay with my son mainly
while I´m in school at
night. Part of that time he
will be asleep.
You will also have to be
with him sometimes so I
can study and you will be
required to cook and do
some light housechores
(wash dishes and so on).
We have another person to
do the heavy cleaning.
All the schedule is quite
flexible and your free time
will be mainly during the
day.
When I have holidays you
will have more free time too.
